The word “Lectica” is Latin and originates from ancient Greek and Roman times and refers to a piece of furniture upon which persons of honor were transported around their communities. The lectica was also used to bear the deceased to the location of their graves. We intend the lectica to be used in a similar manner to honor the deceased by displaying the cremains within an urn placed inside the glass enclosure. For the traditional viewing period at the funeral home, the urn may be placed upon the velvet-covered lectica table-top, or within the glass enclosure.

The lectica comes equipped with a removable front shelf that can be used to display a folded flag or similar items. Also provided is a Bible stand that may be placed on top of the lectica. The two side-shelves pull out and provide rich velvet-covered surfaces on which to display personal items such as framed portraits or to display floral bouquets. We believe that the lectica will provide a greater opportunity for family participation in a traditional grave-side service.

As many as four pallbearers may be used to honor the deceased and surviving family members by carrying the lectica to the cemetery grave location. The removable pedestal makes the top portion exceptionally portable and may be positioned grave-side on many suitable surfaces.

Each lectica is custom designed to your specifications and, like our urns, hand-crafted entirely from solid American hardwoods carefully selected for their intrinsic beauty and durability. They are accented with American-made plate glass and solid brass finials, and are available in solid oak or cherry woods with natural or dark stains, completed with a furniture-grade finish.

We believe that an urn lectica will enhance your ability to serve the families who come to you during their time of need, and will provide growth for your business.
